How Clean Bandit Caught My Attention

Collaboration is king

Discovering Clean Bandit for the first time really reminded me of how important it is for artists to collaborate with each other. It’s a great opportunity to expose yourself to an audience that might not have heard you otherwise. I’ve talked before about how much I love Anne-Marie as a vocalist, so when I saw that she was featured on Clean Bandit’s new track ‘Rockabye’, I had to give it a listen.

We’re not that far into 2017, but ‘Rockabye’ is easily one of my favourite tracks of the year. It’s got a great pre-chorus melody, a great bass line in the chorus, and the music video portray’s a great story.

Check out the music video below as well as a solid live performance of the song.

The ‘Special Edition’ is not so special

After hearing ‘Rockabye’, I began to explore what other material Clean Bandit had put out and found their album ‘New Eyes’ on Google Play Music. I didn’t realize I was listening to the special edition and my initial impression was that the songs on the album didn’t all feel like they fit together. I discussed why I didn’t like the last third of the album in This Week In Music before realizing that I was listening to the special edition that had a few singles tacked on to the end. These singles are great tracks, but I think you get a better listening experience when you hear the original album without the extras. It feels more complete.

Check out ‘Come Over’ (my favorite song from the album) and ‘Telephone Banking’ (this one took a few listens to grow on me, but it’s still dope).
